The Thermometer

In 1593 Galileo Galilei invented a so called thermoscope. It was a container filled with bulbs of varying mass, it could show that the temperatur changced.
In 1612 the Italtian inventor became the first to mak a scale on his thermoscope.
In 1654 the first enclosed liquid-in-a-glass thermometer was invented.
 The first modern thermometer was invented by Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit in 1714.
In 1772 the celsius scale was invented by the swedish Anders Celsius.
The kelvin scale was invented by scientist in the 19th Century.

Eyeglasses

The first wearable eyeglasses were invented in Italy around 1285-1286 in Pisa (or maybe Venice, nobody knows exactly).
In 1752 the first sunglasses was invented by eyeglass designer James Ayscough. But the sunglasses first became popular in the 1930's.
In 1929 the polarizing sunglasses was invented by Edwin Land.

The Spear

The spear was invented about 400.000 years ago, that people that live at that time used it to hunt. They made the spear of wood, a Sharp stone and some lether. After many years the spear was also used as a weapon, at that point the spear had changed alot. It was now made of steal, and a much better Sharp metal top.

The Catapult

The catapult was invented about 400 B.C. in Greece it was only 8 feet tall.
In the medieval age the catapult was a key element, when sieging a city or a castle. At that time, they shot after the walls with stones or other hard things. The catapult also invented the biological warfare, because they threw garbage, or disseased thing.

The Axe




The first axes are known from the Mesolithic period (ca. 6000 B.C.).  The axe was often used to cut Wood, but also as a weapon. Axes were also used in religious purposes. In Crete the doubel axe had a special significance and was used by women priests in religious ceremonies.
In the Roman fasces, the axe symbolised the authority to execute and were often used as symbols for Fascist Italy under Mussolini.

The Canoe

The canoe was constructed between 8200 and 7600 BC. The word came from Caribbean, via the spanish word "Canoa".
Excavations in Denmark shows that the Danish people used dugouts and paddles, during the Ertebølle period (5300 BC - 3950 BC)

Many years ago, people used the canoe for hunting and war, but today we use the canoe for sport and sparetime activities.

The Bow And Arrow

 
 
The bow and arrow was one of the first projectile weapon systems. Some of the first arrow heads dates back to 64,000 years ago in south Afrika. The first actual bow fragments are the Stellmoor bows from northern Germany. They were dated to about 8,000 B.C. but were destroyed in Hamburg during the Second World War, before carbon 14 dating was available.

The Wheel

The wheel was invented about 4000 years B.C.  in the agroculture, in the near and far east countries. The wheel was invented on the American continent around the year 1500. In Europe the wheel was invented around 3000 years B.C., but without a metal string. Then later, they found out, that the wheel was more solid, if they puttet a metal string around the wheel.
